Volvo All Engines (2013 Emissions) Fault Code: P216300 PID: EMS Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor “A” Maximum Stop Performance

Volvo All Engines (2013 Emissions) Fault Code: P216300 PID: EMS Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor “A” Maximum Stop Performance

An analog signal from the accelerator pedal is used to indicate a percent value of the accelerator pedal position. The signal is monitored by the Vehicle Electronic Control Unit (VECU) and communicated to the Engine Control Module (ECM) via the J1939 data link. Based on the signal, the ECM will request a certain engine torque. If the analog signal is too low or too high, the ECM instead uses the digital signal from the accelerator pedal’s idle validation switch to enable driving in limp home mode.

Conditions for diagnostic trouble code (DTC):
1) The vehicle electronic control unit (ECU) receives a higher level signal from the sensor that diverges from idle switch 1 and/or idle switch 2
2) The engine does not respond when accelerator pedal is pressed.

Probable cause
1) Connector
2) Faulty sensor
3) Vehicle Control Unit (VECU)
4) Wiring harness
