Volvo All Engines (2017 Emissions) Fault Code: P069100 PID: EMS Fan 1 Control Circuit Low

Fan clutch, On/off control. An internal spring holds the fan clutch in the engaged position. The Fan Clutch Control Valve is a normally closed circuit solenoid that keeps the Fan Clutch released by overcoming the clutch spring by compressed air until the cooling fan is requested by one of the vehicle systems. When the cooling fan is requested, the control solenoid circuit is commanded open. This removes the air supply to the green hose, allowing the fan clutch to engage. This design ensures that if the fan control system loses air or power, the fan clutch will always be applied, preventing an overheating condition.

Observable symptoms
1) Engine fan permanently disengaged
2) High engine coolant temperature (ECT)

Probable cause
1) Connector
2) Wiring harness
3) Solenoid valve, engine fan
4) Engine Control Module
