Volvo All Engines (2013 Emissions) Fault Code: U016700 PID: EMS Lost Communication With Vehicle Immobilizer Control Module

Volvo All Engines (2013 Emissions) Fault Code: U016700 PID: EMS Lost Communication With Vehicle Immobilizer Control Module

Circuit description
The immobilizer function is a part of a system that prevents the engine from starting if the correct ignition key is not used. After ignition ON, a security code is broadcast from the ECM control unit to the immobilizer control unit or the Instrument cluster (US market). Engine start is permitted if a correct response message is received within a certain number of tries and within a certain time from the immobilizer control unit.

Conditions for diagnostic trouble code (DTC)
Communication fault between Instrument cluster (IC) and Engine control module (ECM)

Observable symptoms
Engine cannot be started

Probable cause
1) Instrument cluster
2) Data link

Volvo All Engines (2013 Emissions) Fault Code: U02A200 PID: ACM Lost Communication With Reductant Quality Module

Circuit description
Aftertreatment Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Tank, Level Sensor has an indicator lamp and gauge in the instrument cluster. A solid lamp comes on when there is approximately 16% DEF remaining in the tank. A flashing lamp indicates when there is approximately 4% DEF remaining in the tank. A 25% engine derate is possible if the DEF is not refilled above the red line on the gauge at the next engine start up.

Conditions for diagnostic trouble code (DTC)
Communication failed

Probable cause
1) The electronic control unit (ECU) has a software fault or the wrong software version
2) Control unit has no supply voltage
3) Connector

Volvo All Engines (2013 Emissions) Fault Code: U032300 PID: EMS Software Incompatibility With Instrument Panel Control Module

Volvo All Engines (2013 Emissions) Fault Code: U032300 PID: EMS Software Incompatibility With Instrument Panel Control Module

The Idle Validation Switch is open at the idle position and transmits no voltage to the (VECU) Vehicle Electronic Control Unit. At approximately 1-13% pedal position the Idle Validation Switch closes and completes the circuit to the (VECU) Vehicle Electronic Control Unit.
The (VECU) Vehicle Electronic Control Unit then sends a voltage signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM) indicating accelerator pedal position. If both communication links (J1939, J1587) are faulty the pedal demand functionality enters limp-home. During limp-home the (IVS) Idle Validation Switch is used for ramping requested torque.

Conditions for diagnostic trouble code (DTC):
1) Incorrect vehicle identification number (VIN) from Instrument Cluster (IC)

Probable cause
1) The electronic control unit (ECU) has a software fault or the wrong software version

Volvo All Engines (2013 Emissions) Fault Code: U033100 PID: EMS Software Incompatibility With Body Control Module “A”

Volvo All Engines (2013 Emissions) Fault Code: U033100 PID: EMS Software Incompatibility With Body Control Module “A”

Conditions for diagnostic trouble code (DTC):
1) Message missing on J1939 from the following electronic control unit (ECU): Vehicle Control Unit (VECU)

Observable symptoms
1) An electronic control unit (ECU) lacking communication with other ECUs can cause a number of symptoms

Probable cause
1) The electronic control unit (ECU) has a software fault or the wrong software version
2) Control unit has no supply voltage
3) Connector
4) Data link

Detailed information
1) Faults on the datalink can be localised by combining this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) with other DTCs
2) It is not probable that the data link is the problem if the diagnostic code (DTC) occurs alone as data link related DTC
3) Faulty software or software version can result in the message being absent from the datalink
4) Guided Diagnostics will automatically detect combination of data link DTCs and refer to another fault tracing procedure
5) If there are no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) set by the electronic control unit (ECU) from which data is missing, the cause may be power failure to that ECU
