The fault code sets when the motor control module (MCM) detects that the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve position is incorrect.

MONITORED PARAMETER:
EGR position error.

TYPICAL ENABLING CONDITIONS:
Engine running

MONITOR SEQUENCE:
None

EXECUTION FREQUENCY:
Always enabled

TYPICAL DURATION:
Two seconds

DASH LAMPS:
1. MIL
2. CEL

ENGINE REACTION:
None

VERIFICATION:
Engine idle

NOTE: If code 168-1 present, fix that first.

PROBABLE CAUSES:
1. Cranking and/or charging system of the truck.
2. Inspect for exhaust leaks around the EGR valve, repair as needed.
3. EGR valve actuator cooler lines/fittings leaking.
